Biography for Andrew Mason

Andrew Mason is an independent information systems consultant based in Wellington.

He was educated in England, Zimbabwe and New Zealand, finishing with a BA from Canterbury University in 1965.While on OE in the UK the following year, he started as a programmer with ICT, working on mainframe operating systems, and ended up working for the same company (under the guises of ICT, ICL and Fujitsu) for the next 26 years in a wide variety of technical, management, sales and consulting roles.During this time he worked in Britain, the Balkans, Germany and the Arabian Gulf States before returning to New Zealand in 1979, since when he has been resident in Wellington.

In early 1993, Andrew left Fujitsu to work independently.As a consultant he has been engaged with a variety of organisations in NZ and overseas, especially in the public sector, and is currently acting as project manager for the redevelopment of business systems for Domainz.

He is involved in information systems security and has worked with a number of organisations in the field of Defence and national security in developing a range of secure systems.He is the chair of the NZ Computer Society's Information Security SIG, and is also the convenor of an international Security SIG under the auspices of the South-East Asian Regional Computer Confederation.

Andrew Mason is closely involved with the NZ Computer Society, of which he is the immediate past President.He is also engaged in the education sector as a member of the National Advisory Committee on Computing Qualifications and chair of the Business Computing liaison committee of Massey University's Wellington campus.
