I am offering myself as a candidate for the Council of the Internet Society of New Zealand as a representative of the end users of the Internet. The Objects of the Society state that "It is intended that the Society be the principal organisation representing the interests of Internet users and Internet Service Providers in New Zealand". I believe that it is important for this group to have a voice in the development and protection of the Internet and I have a clear idea of its value for the end user and for the disadvantaged groups in our society.

My strengths are in advocacy and education and I am experienced in assessing business processes and effective business management. I am a skilled negotiator, and my approach is always outcome orientated. I bring to the Council extensive links with government, non-governmental organisations, and the legal and education communities. My position on the Council would be useful geographically as I am a Mainlander, which brings a different perspective to the Council and I have flexibility in my travel arrangements.

In all my work I bring a commitment to effective communication and consultation. I make extensive use of international mailing lists which is part of maintaining my interest in the development of access to the Internet. Without claiming extensive technical skills in relation to the Internet I do have a Science background having taught Chemistry and Mathematics at Otago Polytechnic.
