Biography for Richard Bourne

I am a sitting member of council and have been actively involved in council matters for the last 2.5 years. I have a good understanding of the workings of the society and the issues it is trying to address. I also believe I have been effective in contributing to improvements within our society.

I am the convenor of the Methods of Electronic Participation working group, responsible for improving electronic participation for members. I believe it is critical to the function and credibility of the society that we use Internet technologies as much as possible to facilitate membership participation in the activity of our society.

I believe in an open and honest council that is driven by the desires and aspirations of the members. I am committed to making our society a credible, effective and respected New Zealand organisation.

I have a technical background and understand the implications of the Internet on business and society. I have made the transition into management and held various management positions including Vice President at Bankers Trust International (in the UK), IT Director for the Central Institute of Technology and General Manager, Systems & Support for Innovus in Wellington. I have recently started a new business, Liverton Limited, specialising in eCommerce Infrastructure related products and services.

I believe I have made a positive contribution to the running of the society and believe I have the skills and passion to help further this work.

Key areas I believe we need to focus on are (in no particular order):

  1. Completion of the SRS implementation
  2. Effective use of Internet technologies for running the society
  3. Better relations with the Societys stakeholders
  4. Defining and articulating the Societys objectives and goals
  5. Finding practical ways to improve the use of and access, to the Internet for all New Zealanders
  6. Managing the .nz delegation effectively and appropriately
  7. Listening to the concerns of members

There will of course be others.

I am married to Sally and have a daughter Rebecca (who is 4 years old and IMO drop-dead gorgeous).

I look forward to continuing to serve on council and furthering these objectives. If you would like me to clarify any of these points further, please email me at richard@bourne.co.nz

I am also seeking the position of Chair of the society. If you would like to know more about why I believe I am the right person for this position please visit my web site at http://www.bourne.co.nz/isocnzchair.htm
