Biography for Joop Teernstra

Born in the Netherlands in 1945.
Lawyer, Banker, Consultant by background.
Web Designer (www.imachination.com) by trade.

Set up the Democratic Association of Domain Name owners in 1997 in protest against what was perceived as an clubby ISOCNZ and an autocratic Domainz.

Became active in what was later to become ICANN around the same time.

Founded the Cyberspace Association in April 1999, as a constituency for Individual DN owners. See www.idno.org  Now 230 members and growing. Elected as external representative. Met fierce opposition to entry as a constituency of the DNSO, but finally had the General Assembly adopt a resolution favouring such entry. Currently nominated as GA delegate to a Names Council task force on preparing an RFP on an IDNO/H constituency.

Became an ISOCNZ member at the Auckland "summit" in 1998. Participated, with moral support and help from ISOCNZ, at physical ICANN Meetings in Singapore, Berlin, Santiago, Yokohama and Melbourne. Participated in all other meetings on-line.

Interests:
1. Representation of Individual Domain Name Registrants in International bodies such as ICANN.
2. The organization of the ccTLD's and their proper representation in International bodies such as ICANN.
3. The representation of Domain Name Registrants within ccTLD registry management.
