Biography of Janet Mazenier

Throughout a varied and challenging career I have developed a strong passion for the enabling opportunities provided by the Internet and related technologies, coupled with a proven ability to engage, promote and manage complex initiatives.

Janet Mazenier PhotoPrior to joining i-solutions I was responsible for managing Telecom's delivery of Project PROBE - a project which gave me insight to working within an incumbent telecommunications supplier, while delivering a project which challenged the corporate 'norm'. I was exposed to the commercial realities of the challenges of delivering high speed internet to New Zealanders, and to the broadband-related needs and demands of communities for social, community and economic growth.

I joined i-solutions (an independent consulting company which specializes in providing independent advice to our clients in optimizing their customer interactions utilizing technology and telecommunications) in October 2005 and am currently leading the i-solutions team which has been appointed to undertake the Broadband Challenge Fund assessment process for the Digital Strategy MUSH network initiative.

I bring to the role of Councillor over 16 years experience as a Project Director, Business Development Manager and Consultant. I have worked for companies such as IBM, Lucent Technologies, Unisys as well as the Education Review Office.

I believe InternetNZ has a significant role to play in encouraging and leading New Zealand internet users and suppliers. Key issues of focus I believe InternetNZ is involved in, and which I bring experience to work with Council on are:

  • The need for affordable access to high speed internet by rural and remotely located communities
  • The promotion and protection of the internet from capture thereby ensuring that an open internet environment exists for all New Zealanders
  • Promotion of InternetNZ's position on issues such as consumer protection, security and privacy to industry, media and others

I live in Eastbourne, Wellington and have two daughters and three step-children. I am married to John and we both share a passion for travel, friends, wine and food.

I love being fit with specific interest in running and walking the Eastbourne tracks and have recently taken ownership of a border collie puppy who I am training to compete with in obedience and agility events.

Janet was nominated by Pete Macaulay.
