Dominic Baron

The Internet is the third quantum leap in the history of the human technology of communication. The first was the creation of written languages, and the second was the invention of the printing press. Without those first two the Internet would not exist.

Each of those two previous major steps contributed to the gradual “democratization” of knowledge, but the vertiginous growth of the Internet has completed this process virtually overnight.

When I came into the IT industry 39 years ago I had already formed the view that this was the technology that would transform our societies. Now it is really about to happen, and I really want to help.
There are some formidable obstacles to overcome, because although every member of InternetNZ is determined to protect the openness and freedom of this vibrant creation, there are forces, both commercial and political, that pay lip-service only to those qualities.

I therefore see InternetNZ as probably the most powerful and effective advocate for the development of an Interactive e-Democracy (IeD) in this country precisely because it is commercially and politically neutral.
It is that mission that I want to assist, both nationally and internationally, by joining the InternetNZ Council, if elected.
