Sam Sargeant

I have been involved in the New Zealand Internet industry for over 10 years, with the past 4 years as Technical Director of OneSquared. I am standing for election to InternetNZ Council to assist in the development of an open and uncapturable Internet in this country.

Sam SargeantAfter many eventful years, InternetNZ has given rise to a successful and robust domain-name system. With the future approaching fast, it's critical for us to continue building upon the success of .nz and help build an Internet for all New Zealanders. InternetNZ can assist by consultation with government, advocacy both here and abroad, and
contributions to events such as NZNOG. While already a powerful medium, there is still much potential for the Internet to bring communication and education to all members of our society. I would like to focus on initiatives that return real benefits to the average Internet user .

My first experience with the Internet was through a 2400bps modem to an VAX/VMS server at the University of Canterbury. While it's nice to think back to the technology of yore, I am far more interested in what new developments are happening today and tomorrow.

I have worked as an IP engineer and software developer before co-founding OneSquared in 2002. While my background is strongly technical, my focus is now on commercial and governance issues.

The State Services Commission contracts OneSquared to manage the registrar for .govt.nz domain-names.
