APNIC Meeting - 7 February 2002

Sue Leader - Notes

SIG and WG Reports

Presentations - http://www.apnic.org/meetings/13/sigs/index.html

  • see VN IDNS report under Reverse DNS SIG - note statement IETF close to standard ( just for VN) [i18n DNS].

  • see db SIG report re DNS SEC/BIND 9.2 - good performance reports now.

  • WHOIS - Verisign report apparently raises good issues and ccTLD differences noted - privacy and TM.

  • Routing SIG - proposal for Route Server for unregistered address space.

  • IX SIG - see site.

  • IPv6 Technical SIG - APNIC IPv6 allocations: APNIC 52, RIPE 52, ARIN 24/ - total 128/35. Also 3 IX's /64. Chungwa Telecom Co: providing IPv6 for broadband access users. Trial for 20K ADSL users.

  • Policy SIG - IPv6 Policy draft document; AS number policy; revised IPv4 Policy; RFC2050 revision; Broadband WG updates - Cable/ADSL policy.

  • IPv6 - the 776 sites in current draft too high; only LIR can get a /32, not end users; 200 addresses must be assigned over next 2 years or subject to reclamation.

  • NIR SIG - http://www.apnic.net/meetings/amm2000/nir/establishment.html - no-one for .nz.

Address Council Elections

  • issue is to ensure AP members of AC reflect diversity of AP region. Possibilities.

  • Noms Committee to nominate appropriately qualified AC candidates.

  • APNIC Individual Membership and APNIC member vote for AC members (i.e. new category and only for voting).

  • Other.

  • Discussion. Worry that new category would be like At Large, and Nom Com would be like ICANN reform; other NIC's allow anyone to attend, nominate, and vote. IETF requires attendance at last two of three meetings b4 being able to vote.

  • straw poll split between 2 and 3. [ARIN report gives how ARIN does it - online like us - note, if vote online and in person, online vote is counted].

ARIN

BoT (7) plus Advisory Council (15). see presentation re structure.

RIPE

Election
