ISOCNZ and Internet Service Providers to Draw up Draft Code of Practice

7 July 1996 - There is significant interest in the growing availability of internet services to a wide range of people and organisations

When the Internet Society of New Zealand (ISOCNZ) was formed last year one of the areas of activity identified was the development of a voluntary Code of Practice for internet service providers. (ISPs).
To further this activity, ISOCNZ is organising a meeting of Internet Service Providers to be held at 1.00pm on Friday 2 August in Auckland. It is intended that lunch will be available before the meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to develop the first draft of the proposed code of Practice.
Maurice Williamson, Minister of Technology, has expressed a keen interest in the issue and has agreed to open the meeting.
ISOCNZ believes the development of such a Code of Practice for Internet service providers is a very positive step which will address, among other issues, public concerns about material which may possibly be accessed by minors when using the Internet.
The meeting is open to all ISPs, whether members of ISOCNZ or otherwise. Interested ISPs are asked to contact ISOCNZ ( secretary@isocnz.org.nz ) to express their interest in attending.
