.GEEK.NZ SUBMISSIONS

Please find enclosed copies of the submissions received for the creation of .geek.nz. They are enclosed as both links to the DNC website, and as PDF documents. The submission period followed the straw vote which was overwhelmingly in favour of the creation of .geek.nz as a second level domain (956 FOR, 103 AGAINST, 6 ABSTAIN).

With the end of the first submission period, the next stage of the Second Level Domains policy (http://dnc.org.nz/content/second_level_domains.pdf )requires Council to make an interim decision, as soon as practicable, on whether .geek.nz will be created. Therefore, Council will need to make this decision at the Council meeting on 31 May.

The interim decision made by Council has to be widely communicated, and is followed by another submission process that ends 14 days before the following Council meeting. Note that the policy requires a final decision to be made at the Council meeting following the meeting where the interim decision was made. If there is a Council meeting in June, around the time of the AGM, this will make the consultation period very short.

NZOC and the DNC are happy to assist Council in completing the .geek.nz application process. We are happy to manage the communication of the Council decision, the second submission period and anything else that Council identifies. Please let me know what we can do to assist.
