Best Practice Programme

(Links to Strategy 3: Technical Development and Innovation)

Sponsor: Jamie Baddeley

Staff Support: Campbell Gardiner

Status: On holdSmiley_Indifferent

Description:

InternetNZ proposes establishing an Industry Best Practice Programme to develop technical standards that further the security and stability of the Internet in New Zealand.

The 'vision' for the Industry Best Practice Programme is as follows:

Best practice documents detailing industry-accepted technical practices and processes would be written. Documents would relate to delivery of Internet services/technology in New Zealand.

Documents could be used to form flexible codes of practice in the Internet area, or to form a body of knowledge for future generations of Internet enablers in NZ to leverage and refer to.

Budget:

$20,000 in 2009/10.

Overall Progress Summary:

The technical community (NZNOG) has reacted enthusiastically to the idea of having a Best Practice Programme. While plenty support the concept of a Best Practice Programme, getting people enthused on drafting / assessing documents is problematic. An exemplar document is being considered, to test the waters and people's enthusiasm for the project.

Activities Planned for next month:

  • None. Project on-hold.
