Hi There Members,

2 years ago I was delighted and humbled to be elected by you to serve on council. Thank you.

Now, 2 years later it is time to seek your support once more. As I cast my mind back to my original basis for wanting to contribute and participate in InternetNZ, I believe I've done well for you.

Over the past two years, I've got to grips with what it means to being a councillor and what it means to Protect and Promote the Internet for New Zealand. I've found the process to be rewarding and enjoyable. With the guidance of firstly Colin Jackson as President, and then later on Pete Macaulay, I've been fortunate to serve on a council that has been described by some (possibly folks who could be deemed as quite mad) as one of the best in action. But that has come from some folks who have been involved with or in the governance of InternetNZ for a very long time. So I take heart in that.

I am chair of the Technical Policy Committee - with the support of previous chair Michael Wallmannsberger, I think Tech-pol has managed to provide guidance to get a few things moving along. This includes things such as the 'Best Current Practices' initiative, and one that is particularly pleasing is the NZCERT initiative. I look forward to these
projects producing real results. I think we've seen some progress on issues around peering, and I think there is a far greater recognition of the transpacific component in the 'being digital' equation for New Zealand. I also think the relationship with NZNOG has grown from strength to strength over the past couple of years. This is all great stuff, although I grow impatient with the rate of progress. Nothing ever happens as fast as one would like.

So, I am asking you, the members, to give me the opportunity to settle unfinished business and continue on for you.

Finally, as current President of the ISP Association of NZ, and as General Manager - Sales, for FX Networks, I'd hope that these other areas continues to give me a perspective that continues to be of value to InternetNZ.
