  • The total number of WHOIS queries increased from 1,568,000 to 1,743,000.

  • The level of active .nz domain names increased from 257,872 to 261,283. An increase of 3,411.

.nz Policies and Procedures

2.1       Registrar Compliance

  • Correspondence on an issue is continuing between the DNC and a registrar.

  • A registrar has apologised to people who received a general promotional email from them well after they had transferred all business away from them.  They have also agreed to make changes in how they get people to opt in to receive notices.

2.2              Policy Reviews

A second consultation paper regarding the review of the Registering, Managing and Cancelling Domain Names Policy has been published and public comments are being sought.  No submissions had been received as at the end of December.  The deadline for responding has been extended to 14 February 2007. The paper can be seen at http://dnc.org.nz/rmc-2ndconsult.

2.3              Applications

No applications for access to the zone file, or for a new second level domain, were received over the month.

Registrar authorisation and connection

One more registrar was authorised in December but there were no more connections to the production environment over the month.

Other .nz matters

  • NZOC met on 11 December.  A copy of the minutes can be seen at http://dnc.org.nz/content//Minutes_11_Dec_06.pdf. As per the notification at the meeting, the DNC Office is moving to change its name to “Domain Name Commission” rather than “The Office of the Domain Name Commissioner”.

  • A call for nominations for the Registrar Advisory Group was sent out with a deadline around mid January.  It is expected that the ‘new’ RAG group will meet in February so their views can be sought on any submissions received as part of the second consultation into the Registering, Managing and Cancelling Domain Names Policy.

Dispute Resolution Service (DRS)

Fourteen new disputes were received in December and there were a total of 18 live disputes progressing through the system.

DNC Office

A replacement Dispute Support Officer was recruited.  Jayne Boyle started in December allowing some overlap for training before Hilary Pope’s last day.
