.nz Policies and Procedures

2.1       Registrar Compliance

  • No new compliance issues arose this month

2.2              Policy Reviews

A second consultation paper regarding the review of the Registering, Managing and Cancelling Domain Names Policy has been published and public comments are being sought.  Two submissions had been received as at the end of January.  The deadline for responding has been extended to 14 February 2007. The paper can be seen at http://dnc.org.nz/rmc-2ndconsult.

2.3              Applications

No applications for access to the zone file, or for a new second level domain, were received over the month.

Registrar authorisation and connection

No new registrars were authorised in January and there were no more connections to the production environment over the month.

Other .nz matters

  • A call for nominations for the Registrar Advisory Group was sent out with a deadline around mid January.  Elections started at the close of the nomination period and continue into early February.  The RAG group is scheduled to meet on 15 February, primarily to discuss submissions received as part of the review into the Registering, Managing and Cancelling Domain Names Policy.

Dispute Resolution Service (DRS)

The first 8 months of the DRS, to 31 January 2007, has seen 71 complaints lodged with 18 (25%) ruled invalid.

Of the 53 valid complaints:

  • 8 settled on initial notification, prior to mediation

  • 18 disputes went to mediation, with 10 of those successfully settling

  • 6 went through to Expert decision with 5 ordered transferred and 1 dismissed.

DNC Office

Hilary Pope left her position as Dispute Support Officer.  The overlap with the appointment and start of Jayne Boyle worked well with suitable training undertaken and enabling an effective transition.
