NZOC Monthly Report for August 2007

NZRS Report

NZRS have produced their monthly report for August 2007.  Points NZOC would like to highlight with Council are:

§                System availability for August was 100% against the SLA standard of 99.9%

This is the second consecutive month that availability has been 100% with only 11 seconds of outage over the whole month (availability rounded to two decimal places).

§                The scheduled maintenance window was utilised on 26 August 2007

§                Performance times for key transactions for August are in the following table:

Performance Stress Testing

The figures are derived from the 'stress testing' of the name servers. 1201 UDP and 121 TCP transactions are used.   Measurements are in milli-seconds.

The measurements for the Primary name servers and NS1, NS2 and NS3 are taken by running the programme on the individual servers.

SRS Zone Pushes

These figures show the average time taken from the point that the first Primary begins the zone push to the time that the last of the secondary’s acknowledges that it is up to date.

§              The total number of WHOIS queries increased from 2,300,000 to 2,719,000.

§              The level of active .nz domain names increased from 286,539 to 291,817.  An increase of 5,278.

.nz Policies and Procedures

2.1       Registrar Compliance

§                No new, significant compliance matters were dealt with in August

2.2              Policy Reviews

§                A third consultation paper for the Registering, Managing and Cancelling Policy review was published for comments.  A copy of this paper can be seen at http://dnc.org.nz/content//Third_Consultation_Paper.pdf.  At the time of writing this report, no submissions had been received.  As submissions are received they will be published at http://dnc.org.nz/rmc-3rdconsult.

2.3              Applications 

§                At their August meeting, the InternetNZ Council agreed with a recommendation from NZOC that the second level domain .bank.nz be created.  The DNC will now work with the NZ Bankers’ Association to implement this.

§                No applications for access to the zone file were received.

Registrar authorisation and connection

Two registrars, Web Widgets and SiteName, connected to the production environment in August. 

Other .nz matters

§                Work is progressing on the consultation documents for the IDN Working Group 

Dispute Resolution Service (DRS)

Interestingly, although we have received fewer than half the number of complaints this month compared to the same period last year, we have processed the same number of valid complaints with six valid complaints being received over the month.

Mediation continues to prove a successful step, with 62% of those cases leading to a resolution either at, or prior to mediation.

DNC Office   

§                All the Experts and Mediators have accepted a 12 month extension to their current contracts.  An Experts’ meeting and a Mediators’ meeting are being arranged for November to discuss the operation of the DRS Policy to date.
