NZRS Report
NZRS have produced their monthly report for July 2007. Points NZOC would like to highlight with Council
are:
§
System
availability for July was 100% against the SLA
standard of 99.9%
This is the second time that availability has reached
100% (the first being in January 2004).
The current stability of the system is directly attributable to the
recent changes made to the Front End replication layer.
§
The
scheduled maintenance window was utilised on 29 July 2007
§

Performance Stress Testing
The figures are derived from the 'stress testing' of the name servers. 1201 UDP and 121 TCP transactions are used. Measurements are in milli-seconds.

The measurements
for the Primary name servers and NS1, NS2 and NS3 are taken by running the
programme on the individual servers.
SRS Zone Pushes
These figures show the average time taken from the
point that the first Primary begins the zone push to the time that the last of
the secondary’s acknowledges that it is up to date.
The zone push times have decreased as a result of the implementation of IXFR (incremental zone transfer) and with July being the first full month of this being implemented.

§ The total number of WHOIS queries increased from 1,800,000 to 2,300,000.

.nz Policies and Procedures
2.1 Registrar Compliance
§ No new, significant compliance matters were dealt with in July
2.2 Policy Reviews
§ A draft consultation paper for the Registering, Managing and Cancelling Domain Names Policy review was discussed by NZOC at their meeting on 27 July. It is expected that this paper will be published around mid August with a three month period for comments.
2.3 Applications
§ An amended moderation policy was received from the NZ Bankers’ Association in time for consideration at the NZOC meeting. It was agreed by NZOC that this amendment was suitable, subject to the approval of the Reserve Bank and the Banking Ombudsman. NZOC will recommend the creation of .bank.nz to the next InternetNZ Council meeting once the Reserve Bank has agreed with the changed moderation policy.
§ No applications for access to the zone file were received.
Registrar authorisation and connection
§ One organisation, Access Information Limited, was authorised as a registrar in July. No further registrars connected to the production environment over the month.
Other .nz matters
§ The initial meeting of the IDN Working Group (WG) was held on 27 July. It was agreed by the WG that any initial work on IDNs in the .nz space should be restricted to the Māori macrons. A call for comments is expected to be published around mid September with a two month consultation period.
Dispute Resolution Service (DRS)
For the month of July 2007, there were 10 new electronic complaints submitted. Of these, 2 were deemed invalid.
Of the 70 valid complaints to 31 July 2007:
§ 29 were resolved (either at or prior to mediation), 15 withdrawn and 1 still in progress
§ 19 proceeded to an Expert determination (4 dismissed, 13 transferred, 1 cancelled and 1 still in progress)
6. DNC Office
In conjunction with the general InternetNZ office, the DNC has offered staff an employer contribution of 4% if they join the KiwiSaver scheme. The employer contribution applied from 1 August 2007, though staff can choose to take it up any time they choose.
