Technical Committee Report - 4 March 2006

Technical Committee held a workshop on 29 January. The workshop covered a range of topics which were all discussed and some further developed in the subsequent meeting.

1. Development of activity planning for business plan process.

2. Status of Peering Taskforce and the need to ensure an INZ perspective relating to our own goals of access.

3. Research paper on technical aspects of networking.

4. Policy issues related to open source/open standards (potential to support office initiatives through a paper summarising direction and rationale)

5. Status of NZCERT (being handled by B Murray).

6. Certification Authority development. M Wallmannsberger and N Wallingford are to meet with F March and P Macaulay.

7. Range of other topics: Broadband monitoring, technical library, NZNOG, DNSSEC, Multicast, innovation fund, international technical travel, technical scholarships/grants.

8. Developed idea of Technical Capability Development Fund to provide appropriate level of reporting and budgeting for the grouping of smaller items previously reported. Paper for consideration appended to this report.

Technical Committee then held a meeting on 10 February 2006. The meeting further developed the initiatives discussed at the workshop, ultimately arriving at a set of activities, budget expectation, prioritisation and level of staff involvement.
