Technical Committee Report - 28 April 2006

Technical Committee Report for InternetNZ Council
28 April 2006

The Technical Committee has not met since the last Council meeting due to the priority of other InternetNZ activities and minimal business to immediately address.

Progress since the last meeting of Council:

1.      A revised set of criteria for the consideration of applications to the Technical Capability Development Fund have been provided to Council for comment. A final draft is included with this paper for adoption by Council.

2.      Several meetings have been held relating to DNSSEC, given the opportunity to have Steve Crocker available to INZ through ICANN. The changes that will make it acceptable to INZ now relate primarily to policy rather than strictly technical, though the committee will stay involved regardless.

3.      Other discussions have begun relating to the potential for a NZ based Certification Authority, with the committee now having received the initial information from a possible provider of various services to give us indicative pricing and potential approaches. The matter is still receiving only pre-business plan consideration.

4.      A request for proposal has been submitted to WAND for the commissioning of a feasibility report on the development of a broadband monitoring tool, along the lines previously discussed by Technical Committee. Technical Committee anticipates paying up to $10,000 for the study.

Recommendations:

A) THAT the report be received.

B) THAT Council adopt the proposed criteria for the consideration of applications to the Technical Capability Development Fund.

C) THAT Council authorise Technical Committee to spend up to $10,000 from the TCDF to commission a report on the feasibility of and options for broadband monitoring.
