SRS IOC Report 01/12/01

The SRS Implementation Manager and Technical Manager have both had a busy month with a considerable number of presentations and excellent industry feedback. (see SRS Implementation Managers report for details).

It has become clear that the first priority of the InternetNZ owned registrar must be to assist the ccTLD Manager (and hence the society) manage the transition to a competitive environment. Industry feedback indicates that their principal concern is that investment in registry development would be compromised by a competitive approach by the incumbent registrar. Clear statements and commitments will need to be made to allay industry concerns in this area.

The IOC have reviewed the results of the RFI and approved the selection of a shortlist of four companies to receive the RFP for the development of the registry system and required registrar components (e.g support of the email template). Note that as far as possible the Registrar requirements will be satisfied with package software.

The next major step is the appointment of a ccTLD Manager (followed by a Registry Manager and Registrar Manager) to manage the transition from the present all-in-one' situation.

PS It should be noted that Zivo, one of the selected recipients for the RFP, was partially owned by myself however I have had no interest in this company for just over two years.
