Review of the Composition of the .nz Oversight Committee April 2004

Council resolved in 2003 to publicly consult on the composition of the NZOC, with the benefit of two years experience of operations of NZOC.

A paper was published in early 2004 canvassing four models, including the status quo.

There was limited response electronically, namely one submission. However there was good discussion at the Auckland and Wellington workshops on the issue,

Each model had at least one advocate amongst the membership. However at both meetings the majority view was that the status quo of having .nz Oversight Committee fully appointed by Council was working well, and change at this stage was not supported.

It was felt it would be useful to re-address the question in another two or three years, possibly in conjunction with a wider review of the ,nz structure.

In theory, as no change form the status quo is recommended, Council does not have to pass a resolution. But for the benefit of a complete record, it is recommended:

That InternetNZ, noting consultation with members found no consensus to change the method of appointment or election of the .nz Oversight Committee, resolves to maintain the .nz Oversight Committee as an appointed sub-committee of Council comprising seven members, being the President (ex-officio) , and six other members with three appointed every year for two yearly terms.
