To: Frank March - Chair, .nz Oversight Committee
To: Debbie Monahan - The Domain Name Commissioner

Frank/Debbie,

At the last meeting of the Technical Committee of InternetNZ we discussed the move in technical responsibility for the .nz name space from the committee to the .nz Oversight Committee and the DNC office. I understand from discussions with the President, Keith Davidson, that you are both now at liberty to seek your own independent technical advisors.

Be that as it may, we would like to offer our services as technical advisors to both the .nz OC and DNC office. Although we are volunteers and time is a premium, we believe we can add value to InternetNZ related technical issues. As a committee we collectively have considerable expertise in technical matters relating to the .nz name space. We also have influence in the decision making process of the society. We believe that there is real benefit to the society and to your respective offices for the committee to being involved in any technical issues you may face.

So, the next time you are pondering a technical issue we would be only too happy to help.

Regards Richard
Chair, Technical Committee, InternetNZ

Keith/David,

At the last meeting of the Technical Committee concern was raised about the potential for duplication of IT infrastructure now that we have two offices (DNC & InternetNZ). As the committee responsible for all technical issues relating to InternetNZ we would like to ask that we be informed of all IT capital expenditure of the society. I should stress that this is not from the perspective of approving expenditure. Our interest is in keeping an eye on the consistency of technology used. We would not wish to see disparate systems being installed separately in the two offices. We believe our involving at this level would eliminate unnecessary (albeit unintentional) expenditure.

Regards Richard
Chair, Technical Committee, InternetNZ
