Richard Wade election statement / bio

RW

Recent years have seen dramatic change in the structure of New Zealand's communications systems, both politically and technically. As momentum gathers for the migration of fundamental communications tools away from traditional technologies towards new physical infrastructure and Internet-based protocols, it is imperative that InternetNZ plays an instrumental role on two key issues.

Firstly, InternetNZ should be regarded by both Government policy-makers and Industry leaders as a valued contributor and thought leader in the development of New Zealand telecommunications regulation, law, policy, and investment planning.

Secondly, both public and private Enterprise should regard InternetNZ as providing impartial, world-class, expert, technology leadership and education to the New Zealand Internet community.

Through programmes of education and effective communication with policy-makers, industry, and the public, InternetNZ can have a significant positive impact on the future of New Zealand's domestic and international telecommunications systems.

Richard is currently a member of the New Zealand IPv6 Steering Committee, assisting with the organisation and delivery of the 2009 IPv6 Hui and future IPv6 initiatives. He is also a  participant in the InternetNZ Policy Advisory Group.

Richard is a New Zealand citizen and resident of Wellington, where he is employed by Cisco Systems in the role of Consulting Systems Architect, a technical consultancy role to Internet Service Providers and Telecommunications companies. He has ten years' experience working in a range of technical development and architecture roles with ISPs and Telcos in the UK and New Zealand.

Richard holds a PhD in Network Transport Protocol Design, and a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Leeds, England.
