Role Description
Treasurer of InternetNZ

The Treasurer of InternetNZ is responsible, with or without external accountants, for the financial health of InternetNZ.

The Treasurer is an Officer of the Society elected by the Members of the Society. The term of office of the Treasurer is two years.

The Treasurer is chair of the Audit Committee and a member of the Executive Committee. The Treasurer is a signatory of the Society.

The Treasurer will liaise with the external accountants and the independent auditors as necessary to fulfill the Treasurer's duties.

The Treasurer will liaise with the Executive Director to ensure that the accounts system can produce the correct required reports.

The Treasurer will receive monthly reports from the Executive Director to form the basis of reports to Council.

Specific responsibilities

1. Legal

    • Ensure that Staff meet all Constitutional and Bylaws requirements for Financial Reporting to meetings of the Society (Council and General Meetings)
    • Ensure that the Registrar of Incorporated Societies is sent copies of the Audited Accounts annually.
    • Prepare/submit MonthlyFinancial reports to Council based on the reports provided by the Executive Director
    • Prepare the Annual Accounts for submission to the auditors in liaison with the Executive Director and external accountants
    • Work with the Executive Director to prepare the annual budget and advise on it's suitability
    • Present the Audited Accounts and the proposed Budget to the AGM of the Society
    • Ensure that the financial reporting of the Society meets best practice and complies with legislation in force.

2. Executive Committee

    • The Treasurer will recommend Financial Policies and Procedures to the Executive Committee and Council.
    • The Treasurer will approve expense claims excepting his or her own which will be approved by the President
    • The Treasurer will ensure compliance with various InternetNZ financial policies - e.g InternetNZ Expenses Policy 14 November 2001, InternetNZ Travel reimbursement policy of 2005.

3. An annual honorarium, at a level agreed by the Council of InternetNZ, will be paid on a quarterly basis.

4. The role of Treasurer takes up a minimum of 1 day a fortnight and can exceed 10 hours a week. On top of considerable e-mail correspondence the Treasurer has the following minimum regular meetings each year:

    • Six to ten full day Council Meetings
    • Eleven half day Executive Committee Meetings
    • At least one other half day sub-group meeting per month (as Chair)
Note it is estimated that preparation time for meetings, for a person to be effective, is at least one hour of preparation for each hour of meeting and if you are the meeting chair at least 1.5 hours per hour.
