Council Election Nominees

Below are statements supplied by candidates for election to the council of The Internet Society of New Zealand. Opinions expressed are not necessarily those of the society.

BRENDA LOBB

Brenda Lobb holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Auckland. She is Chairman and CEO of UniForum NZ Corporate Sponsor, The Seabrook Group Ltd, and a lecturer in Psychology at the University of Auckland. A long-time Board member of UniForum New Zealand, she has served two terms as President (1993-1995). She was elected as a council member of the Internet Society of New Zealand last November, and served for several months as Membership Secretary before resigning due to pressure of work.

Since 1977 she has worked in programming and support roles in commercial and R&D environments, and as a researcher, writer and team manager in both the business and academic arenas. Her research interests include the experimental analysis of behaviour, applied behaviour analysis and study of the impact of electronic communications on behaviour. The editor of UniForum NZ News, she has edited and written for numerous other business and computer publications as well as internally for many clients.

JENNY SHEARER

I am Jenny Shearer, a PhD student of the Computer Science and Political Studies Departments at Auckland University. As an ISOCNZ Council member this year I have contributed in practical management issues, and organised a survey of political parties before the election, which I hope has given us useful reference material. My field is Communications Policy in the Internet, and I'm particularly interested in development of the ethical/political/societal potential of the Internet, which is one of the concerns of ISOCNZ. I am keen to pursue a close networking/affiliation with the USACM public policy committee next year, as policy development assumes a higher priority with the settling on many DNS issues.
