Mailing Lists Report from Admin Committee 08/09/01

MAILING LISTS

Admin Committee recommends to Council that the following changes to mailing lists be made:

2LDapp-discuss

Delete and discuss issues on a wider DNS policy issues list

consult-constitution

Delete - this list is no longer needed and such discussion should take place on members list.

dndr-discuss

This is a specialised area with a limited life-span so we should keep list until consultation is over in November.

dndr-wg

Keep - used by WG.

Idno-announce

Hosted on behalf of IDNO

Isocnz-admin

Generally we believe that no lists should have isocnz in their name anymore. As we have internetnz.net.nz in the domain name we don't actually need to have internetnetnz on the left hand side of the name either. It used to be necessary when we didn't host our own mail server but now we do, it isn't.

Recommend rename to admin-cmte

Isocnz-announce

We believe we it is not desirable that we do not have a dedicated mailing list which reaches all members but only our members. This list currently goes to members and

non-members alike.

We propose we split this into two lists. One to be called members-announce and one to be called public-announce. The reply-to for both lists would by default be members-discuss and public-discuss.

Members-announce would automatically include all members of InternetNZ. It would be extremely low volume and only include required constitutional notices, votes and very important issues. Posting rights to be Officers and ED only.

Public-announce would be open to any interested person and be promoted

widely as a way of keeping abreast of current Internet issues both DNS

related and others. Could push media, commentators, some MPs, ISPs

etc to all subscribe to this as well as registrants.
