ISOCNZ Admin Committee Report to Council

Following from the last meeting the principle business has been the issue of additional staff and some anciliary matters: the proposed budget will be discussed by the Treasurer and options for new office accommodation by the Executive Director.

Following the discussion at the last Council meeting about the need for additional staff, two actions were undertaken:

  1. The Executive Direct was instructed to reduce her working hours to something like the contracted 40 hours pw. Sue has informed me that she has worked an average of 45 hours pw since the last Council meeting.
She has informed me of concerns about some work which is not progressing as a result. The two greatest issues are minutes of the council meeting (note: motions were circulated within 3 days of the last meeting) and planning for the Summit, scheduled for the 23 June immediately prior to the AGM.
As far as this goes, AGM planning has to take priority, as do any matters to do with meeting constitutional requirements (as per written instructions issues by Convenor of Administration committee, February 2000).
  2. Material relating to the employment of additional staff was circulated by email to Council in the week following the last meeting. This consisted of copies of additional job descriptions, particularly that of the proposed Administration Assistant, and a budget. It was noted that there were no anticipated additional office expenditures arising from any appointment as existing facilities would suffice. Following advice from the Treasurer, the salary budget was increased from $40,000 to $45,000, giving an overall budget of $48,000 inlcuding purchase of a computer.
Discussion on the list consisted of an exchange of views from John Hine and Mark Harris. No other comments relating to this proposal emerged. As the time of the May council meeting was fast approaching, an electronic vote was not asked for.

It is therefore moved that the Executive Director be asked to proceed with the employment of an executive assistant as soon as possible.
