Comments:

In January John Vorsterman installed sharman.internetnz.net.nz as a multicast network server for InternetNZ. This system is operational.

I have installed on this server two software systems which interact with my own servers.

RcBridge is a manual HTTP service

  • RcBridge. You can log on to this service on http://sharman.internetnz.net.nz:9090 . This enables you to enter a multicast address and have it tunnelled back to you.
  • To orginate multicast to sharmans address you will use RcForward which is loaded on the Portal as a zip file. Check the multicast intiative document area. This is a java applet.
  • These require testing

The second system is is Funnelweb and Transcode Active Gateway.

  • I have recoded and succeeded in getting the Discovery, TagClient, Reflector Java proxylets to run but am having trouble with the Router.jar routines.
  • I have also added the code necessary to get the TAG system to be part of the Secure Conference Gateway. This will enable people to click to activate the system on http://zeus.awacs.co.nz
  • I had a lot of trouble with one of the Java applets (that is part of the Conference Booking system I am using) from the University College of London as it suddenly became inaccessible to me in early February. I eventually found that UCL’s master SLL certificate had expired which was used as part of the applets validation and after a couple of weeks advised them in London. They were able issue a new certificate by the next business day.
  • As a result I have lost a lot of time compiling and SSL signing a local version of the applet for Microsoft CAB and gained some masocistic pleasure from the experience. Still have not completed the Netscape version.
  • I am waiting for the University Technology of Sydney to send me the updated Router JAR and will get this together soon. The news does get better J
  • Estimate I spent another 40 hours on this since our last meeting
