Project Description:

InternetNZ has identified low membership numbers as an issue, primarily relating to the credibility of the organisation.

Note: The current membership plan was adopted at the June 2006 Council meeting. And new subscription amounts and types were adopted at AGM that same year.

Project Budget:

$30,000 has been budgeted for 'Membership Campaign' in 2008/09. Note: the Membership Plan is incorporated into this line item.

Overall Progress Summary:

Opportunity to promote membership is taken at New Zealand ICT industry events; generally by sponsoring event stands where InternetNZ marketing material is on display and a staffer on hand to explain membership benefits.

Activities Planned for October 2008:

Receive and renew memberships as invoices are returned to the office.

Project History:

September 2008:

  • 30 September - Membership invoices issued.
  • Membership subscription contracts renegotiated with David Goldstein and Gordan Cook.

August 2008:

  • Touted for new members at APNIC26 event in Christchurch.

July 2008:

  • Six new members added as a direct result of communications re: IPv6 technical workshops.

June 2008:

  • Sent survey reminder note to Members-Announce mailing list.
  • Collected and analysed survey results.
  • Supplied key survey results to 13 June Council meeting as a paper 'For Information'.

May 2008:

  • Published Membership Communications survey to Members-Announce mailing list.

January - February 2008:

  • Membership promoted at the LGNZ Broadband Forum, with two new members recruited.
  • Members consultations held in Dunedin, Auckland and Wellington.
  • Membership promoted at the NZNOG meeting.

November 2007:

  • Sponsored the Wireless and Broadband Forum's Convergence breakfast.

August 2007:

  • InternetNZ hosted an IPv6 workshop. The opportunity was used to sign up new members by offering free admission to InternetNZ members.

June 2007:

  • Annual Report published. Note: The annual report is a resource used, in part, to introduce people to InternetNZ's work.

May 2007:

  • Attended a sponsor stand at "Convergence Oceania". 10 new members were signed up.

March 2007:

  • Negotiated for sponsor stand for "Convergence Oceania" day in May, convened by the Wireless and Broadband Forum.

  • Ongoing tidying up of members database.

February 2007:

  • Bring a friend / prospective member to the members consultation meetings in February.

January 2007:

  • Advertising Copyright Bill seminars with $150 attendance fee for non members and free entry for members worked well, with several new members, mainly from the IP law community, signing up.

  • Membership promotions stand at NZNOG, plus advising the NOG during a session on the Copyright Bill that IP lawyers were signing up as members resulted in a number of new memberships.

November 2006:

  • Commenced circulation of Cook Report to members.
  • New membership brochure in use.

September - October 2006:

  • Finalised arrangements for Cook Report and Goldstein Report.

  • Finished design work on membership brochure.

August 2006:

  • Preparation of new membership brochure.

  • Communications role recruited.

June - July 2006:

  • Membership plan adopted at June Council meeting.

  • Commenced preparation of new membership brochure.

  • Commenced recruitment plan for Comms role, membership will be important aspect of this role.

  • New subscriptions adopted at AGM.

April - May 2006:

  • NZCS Joint Membership plan activated (7 NZCS members have now joined INZ).
  • Membership fee and structure changes as raised during members consultation meetings referred back from the G&C Committee with draft amendments to INZ’s constitution.
  • Scoping of Comms role (which will include significant input into membership).
  • Rough draft of Membership Plan created.
  • Attended ICTNZ Board meeting.

March 2006:

  • NZCS Joint Membership plan activated (6 NZCS members have now joined INZ)
  • Membership application coupons included in newspaper advertising.
  • Membership application forms included in NZNOG conference delegates packs.
  • Membership fee changes raised during members consultation meetings.
