Biography for Arron Scott

For the last 7 years I have been closely involved in the deployment of the Internet in New Zealand, first at the University of Waikato as Senior Network Engineer on NZGate, and subsequently at Telecom in both development and operational roles with NetGate. In this time gaining Cisco Certification (CCIE) has been my personal highlight.

Attending various global Internet conferences such as Internet Summit, 3 Inet conferences and Apricot, as well as involvement in New Zealand's early IP addressing, DNS, and infrastructure, has given me a broad understanding of the issues of the Internet, beyond that of just technical.

ISOCNZ is a very important body, it must improve its visibility both inside and outside the traditional Internet communities. There are still some major decisions to be made regarding the DNS, many of these best made by the interested parties already involved. However, it is critical that ISOCNZ also extends its reach far beyond this topic.

The educating and sharing of the Internet with all of New Zealand is one of my strong personal interests, ISOCNZ should strongly support initiatives such as NetDay, as well as promoting the Internet in more public forums. Of this the key word for me is "promote", to present the value and benefits of the Internet, rather than focus on the many issues causing bad press and concern in the wider community.
