Liz Butterfield bio / election statement

LB

My first term as Councillor was a fascinating learning curve as I came up to speed with the wide array of initiatives InternetNZ is involved in, and developed a better understanding of the special culture of this organisation.  Being elected for this role by Members is a privilege and a responsibility I take very seriously.

Important work lies ahead: improving access to broadband for New Zealanders as well as the quality and speed of that broadband, copyright, IPv6, ICANN & IGF, online safety & security, expansion of domain names, broadcasting regulation, etc.   Equally important though is the work ahead for InternetNZ internally - defining itself as a charitable entity, completing work on a new structure with the capacity for growth, establishing the Trust, and looking for business opportunities to help diversify revenue streams.  I am the first to admit I am little help on the technical discussions about IPv6!  My strengths lie in understanding the social impact of the Internet, implementing proactive measures to mitigate risk, as well as understanding organisational change and growth.

InternetNZ is a very special organisation, blessed with capable and talented staff, and a strong and knowledgeable Council.  Our organisation has significant national and international influence. I would like to serve another term to strengthen the structure and governance policy that enables this very positive impact. Thank you.
