Nominee for Council 2005-07 : David Harris

In the two years since I was first elected to the InternetNZ Council, I have been committed to the growth and development of the Society:

  • I have attended every meeting except one during the two year period (and the one I missed was because I was representing InternetNZ at an Anti-spam meeting in Malaysia).
  • I have been a member of the Legal and Regulatory Committee for both years.
  • I was a member of the Audit Committee in 2004.
  • I have been a member of the Technical Committee for both years, currently serving as Vice-Chair.
  • I have been Vice-Chair of the InternetNZ Anti-spam Taskforce, and have worked extensively with Industry and Government to help shape and promote the upcoming anti-spam legislation.
  • I developed the Spam White Paper on which much of InternetNZ's anti-spam position and methodology is based, and developed the InternetNZ anti-spam web site, http://stopspam.net.nz.
  • I wrote a white paper on Certification Authorities which is serving as part of the development process for InternetNZ's position and strategy regarding certification.
  • I drafted InternetNZ's Banking and Investment policy, which was enacted as a Society Bylaw last year.
  • I have frequently acted as a media spokesman for InternetNZ on Internet-related issues.
  • Not least of all, in my view, I have tried to promote improved standards of communication, language use and presentation within the Society.

I am a software developer from Dunedin, and have been specializing in Internet mail protocols for over fifteen years. I believe that InternetNZ is getting stronger by the year, and feel privileged to have been part of that process. I look forward to offering more service to members and the Internet community alike, if they wish me to do so.
