Nominee for Council 2005-07 : Mark Harris

I bought my first modem in 1989 and got my first Internet email message in 1993. I became involved with ISOCNZ (as was) at the first pre-incorporation meeting in the National Library auditorium. I was elected to Council in 1996 and became involved with the administration of the Society. I chaired the Working Group which developed the Electronic Meetings guidelines as well as the Administration Subcommittee and was for a time the Shareholder Representative for Domainz. Later, I served as Chair of the Technical Committee.

I have been involved in government work since 1982 in various departments, most recently in the E-government Unit of the State Services Commission, where I maintained and managed the Government Web Guidelines from 2000 to 2005, and built the Government Domain Registrar in 2005. I have also been the Convenor of GOVIS, the Government Information System Managers' Forum, for 3 consecutive years, and was co-moderator of the *.govt.nz 2LD from 1998 till July 2005.

I recently left the SSC to work in the private sector as a director of Technology Research and Consultancy Services Ltd. and now I feel I can contribute back to the Society without feeling conflicted by work pressures. In 2000 I wrote "The Internet is part of the future - put simply, it's where I want to be." That's still true.
