Nominee for Council 2005-07 : Peter Macaulay

Why Vote for Peter on Council?

By voting for me, you will see me putting real effort into the following 5 areas:

  1. To provide continuity for some of the initiatives I started and can drive from a council seat, without interfering with Keith’s role as Executive Director.
  2. To maintain relationships, for InternetNZ, with the contacts I have formed over many years in this industry.
  3. To enthusiastically engage in the work of council and committees to support the InternetNZ strategy.
  4. To speak for effective governance, and to ensure that council, executive committee, and the secretariat are supported and encouraged to fulfill their roles, while listening to the members.
  5. To work alongside those on council with specialist skills to ensure they are able to deliver significant outcomes.

Some background

For the past two and a half years I have been privileged to be the Executive Director of the Society. A press article about my time can be found at:

  • President of Speld (specific Learning Disabilities)
  • Founder of the Business Software Alliance
  • Committee member in suf lifesaving, christian organisations, and charities.

A brief bio

Peter is passionate about the ability of the Internet to enhance many aspects of peoples’ lives, and works to make it happen. Since January 2003, he has been Executive Director of InternetNZ.

Moving from aircraft engineering into the Computer Services division of Air New Zealand, Peter became an analyst programmer in 1972. This technical background is the foundation on which he has superimposed management, sales and marketing skills. Generalization has allowed Peter to work internationally in roles as diverse as developer of operating system components, through to CIO of one of the world’s largest electronics distributors.

Peter has a strong interest in intellectual property, and was a founder of the NZ Business Software alliance. To emphasize a commitment to the industry Peter served on the board of ITANZ (Information Technology Association of New Zealand), and was elected president for a two year term in 1998.

Trevor Eagle and Peter Macaulay formed The Number One IT Group as a subsidiary of Eagle Technology in 1983, and it became an industry leader in software distribution and technical service. The core business was built by focussing on Novell GroupWise as a vehicle for supporting other applications in a message centred business model. The business was highly regarded as a friendly and effective provider of award winning support.

The distribution and technical support divisions were sold in 1998, leaving Peter clear to run the consulting unit.

Outside of ICT, Peter's personal interests include christianity, motorcycles, music, film, reading, food, real ale, and almost anything that involves various risky combinations of velocity, wetness and altitude.

Peter is married to Diana since 1968, with adult children.
