Draft Report 27/04/00

Review of the Registry/Registrar Framework for .nz, Progress Report

Through 24 April 2000 the Working Group has:

  1. Established a web site at http://www.isocnz.org.nz/about-us/current-consultation.html
  2. Held a forum in Auckland attended by Chris O'Donoghue; Peter Mott, 2Day.com; Ray Lewis; Bob Gray; Len Gray; John Hine; David Farrar; Rick Shera; and Don Stokes.
  3. Held a forum in Wellington attended by Michael Stevens, CPS Systems; Jim Higgins, Networking Edge and Domainz; Ewen McNeill; David Zanetti; Sean Liddall; Victoria University Information Technology Services; Hamish MacEwen; David Harpham; Don Stokes; David Farrar; Richard Shera; John Hine.
  4. Visited IPROLINK (Craig Anderson and Jim Benson), 2 Day (Peter Mott) and Xtra (Karen Wynder). The chair has also talked to Andy Linton of NetLink/Saturn/Telstra/Paradise.
  5. Received submissions from Jenny Shearer, Peter Mott and Joe Abley (via Robert Gray), Ewen McNeill, Jim Higgins, Roger Hicks, Lin Nah, David Harpham, and David Zanetti.

The working group has received comment on the development of the domain names market, the operation of Domainz, the impact of change, the impact of a monopoly registry, alternative models for a registry/registrar framework, issues of best practice, the relationship between name holders, registrars and registries and the funding of policy development.

The working group looks forward to assimilating this input into a meaningful and constructive report.
