Meeting Internet 2 Working Group : August 28 2001
2.1. Proposed Terms of Reference
2.1.1. Raise awareness of potential benefits and challenges of advanced computing services and applications for the new Zealand research community, the commercial sector, and Society in general.
2.1.2. Facilitate the development of partnerships and consortiums with the research community and industry that will keep New Zealand at the cutting edge of advanced computing and networking technologies.
2.1.3. Provide input to Government Industry Policy formation.
2.2. Anticipated Outcomes
2.2.1 Increased awareness and linkages between industry and the New Zealand research community in Internet 2 (NZ)
2.2.2 New Zealand participation in regional and global Advanced Computing research initiatives and alliances, e.g., APAN - Asia Pacific Advanced Network
2.2.3 Increased expertise and creation of a skillbase in Internet 2 (NZ) Applications
2.2.4 Successful demonstration of trials using Internet 2 (NZ) run Quarterly
2.2.5 Existence of at least one peering point in New Zealand within 12 months.
3.0 Action steps
3.1 Internet 2 Stakeholder Workshop
1/2 day workshop will be held Oct 16 in Wellington at Council Board room . Invitation ( approx 60 ) will be extended to all potential stakeholders who could contribute to progressing an Internet 2 agenda for NZ inc Telcos , Equipment suppliers , Research and education community .
