IAC Report to Council 28/08/05

WGIG Report

NZ's response to the WGIG report has been drafted, and sent as a submission for the PrepCom3 meeting in Geneva.

The consensus view of the committee is that none of the 4 models proposed appeals as likely to improve or at least maintain the stability and security of the Internet, and that continuation of the ICANN model is preferred.

Keith Davidson has been approved by IAC to attend PrepCom which is scheduled for 2 weeks towards the end of September. Keith would proceed on from PrepCom to then attend APTLD. The meetings will generally take half days which will permit Keith to allocate time to InternetNZ business. The requirement for PrepCom is to assist and provide technical guidance to government representatives.

APTLD

APTLD meeting in Singapore recently agreed to recruit a general manager. It is not certain that APTLD will have a representative at PrepCom3. However a statement to PrepCom that represents a unified view (APTLD, CENTR views) is expected to carry weight.

ICANN - Luxembourg

ccNSO Secretariat approved.

IANA fees - ccNSO IANA WG established to consider fees for IANA services.

Strategic Plan - agreed with some parts of the Strategic Plan but not all.

gNSO - failed to achieve a consensus position with the Strategic Plan.

ICANN - Vancouver

Scheduled for the first week in December.

NZ should have a strong presence there being the meeting immediately before ICANNZ06 here in Wellington.
A number of rooms have been reserved names of attendees to represent NZ have yet to be determined.

APRICOT

IAC supports in principle investigating bidding to host APRICOT 2008, but the economics may prove difficult to progress this support. More work needed to assess the options.

Financial report

A financial report format has been prepared. The DNC did not have time to have a first report prepared for our last meeting but will do so for future meetings.
